# Photobun > Photobun (https://bunstudio.net) is a free, lightweight photo editor in the browser and as a ~10 MB desktop app (Windows, macOS). It works like Photoshop and Lightroom: layers, masks, layer styles, adjustment layers, groups, PSD/PSB open & save, a RAW "Develop" workspace (LibRaw, ~1,200 cameras), AI background removal on the device, healing tools, vector shapes and the Pen tool, multi-board documents with per-board export (PNG, JPEG, WebP, PSD). No sign-up. Made by Bun Studio, Thailand. Photobun includes an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, so AI agents such as Claude (Claude Code, Claude Desktop) and OpenAI Codex can operate the editor for a user: open their files, edit, and export the results back to them. ## For AI agents: how to use Photobun through MCP - Install (needs Node.js 18+): `claude mcp add photobun -- npx -y -p https://bunstudio.net/mcp/photobun-mcp.tgz photobun-mcp` - Codex (`~/.codex/config.toml`): `[mcp_servers.photobun]` / `command = "npx"` / `args = ["-y", "-p", "https://bunstudio.net/mcp/photobun-mcp.tgz", "photobun-mcp"]` (on Windows use `command = "cmd"`, `args = ["/c", "npx", ...]`) - The user keeps Photobun open (https://bunstudio.net in Chrome/Edge, or the desktop app) and turns on Window › AI Bridge (MCP). Chrome asks once to allow local network access: click Allow. - Tools: `photobun_state` (tabs, boards, layers), `photobun_commands` (every menu command id + args), `photobun_run` (run any command headless with args, e.g. `{id:"layer.removeBg"}`, `{id:"adjust.hueSat", args:{hue:30}}`, `{id:"image.size", args:{width:1080}}`), `photobun_open` (open local images/PSDs/RAW), `photobun_export` (write each board to a folder as PNG/JPEG/WebP/PSD), `photobun_preview` (see a board as PNG), `photobun_colors`, `photobun_templates`. - Typical jobs: remove backgrounds in batch; resize/convert images for social media; split a sprite sheet into separate PNGs (`select.objects` + `select.extractBoards`); make Facebook/Instagram multi-photo posts from templates; retouch, add text, export PSD. ## Privacy and security model - Images are processed locally on the user's device (browser or desktop app); Photobun does not upload them. The MCP server also runs locally. - The MCP server listens only on 127.0.0.1 (not reachable from the network) and accepts connections only from Photobun itself (origin allow-list: bunstudio.net, the desktop app, localhost dev). - The AI agent only sees what the user asks it to open, and exports go to folders on the user's own machine. ## Pages - [Free online photo editor](https://bunstudio.net/) - [For AI agents (MCP)](https://bunstudio.net/ai/) - [PSD editor online](https://bunstudio.net/psd-editor/) - [Background remover](https://bunstudio.net/background-remover/) - [RAW photo editor](https://bunstudio.net/raw-editor/) - [Image resizer](https://bunstudio.net/image-resizer/) - [Image converter (WebP/PNG/JPG)](https://bunstudio.net/image-converter/) - [Sprite sheet cutter](https://bunstudio.net/sprite-sheet-cutter/) - [Sprite animation maker](https://bunstudio.net/sprite-animation-maker/) - [AI image generator](https://bunstudio.net/ai-image-generator/) - [Photo collage maker](https://bunstudio.net/photo-collage-maker/) - [Free Photoshop alternative](https://bunstudio.net/free-photoshop-alternative/) - [Free Lightroom alternative](https://bunstudio.net/free-lightroom-alternative/) - Available in 11 languages: en, th (/th/), es, zh, ja, ko, fr, de, pt, id, vi. - [Privacy](https://bunstudio.net/privacy/) · [Terms](https://bunstudio.net/terms/)
